A solo directed by Steven Kent, with music by Charles Nieland, premiered
December 1993 at Dance Theater Workshop in NYC, and shown as work-in-progress
at the Los Angeles Festival. Toured to Chicago, Edmonton, Cincinnati,
Louisville, and Huntington Beach, CA. McMahon and collaborator Kent (known
for his work with Joseph Chaikin and John O'Neal,) blend original texts
with an idiosyncratic movement vocabulary, rummaging through blasted buildings
of the soul, as epicenters New York and Los Angeles teeter on the fault-lines.
Torn between cities, lives and histories he can't reconcile, McMahon explores
how we carry our culture and history like an ill-fitting suit that looks
great on somebody else. |
